Silence and the Forest - Taneli Eskola and Otso Vartiainen
Ainola, Järvenpää
- 2.5.2025–30.9.2025
Ainola and the Järvenpää Art Museum celebrate the 160th anniversary of Jean Sibelius with a photo and light art exhibition.
The Järvenpää Art Museum and Aino and Jean Sibelius' home Ainola will celebrate the anniversary of the composer Jean Sibelius in 2025 with a joint exhibition at the Järvenpää Art Museum from April 23, 2025 to January 4, 2026 and in Ainola from May 2 to September 30, 2025.
The sources of Jean Sibelius's (1865–1957) musical art included nature, silence and a world of experiences combining different sensations.
Artist Taneli Eskola's (b. 1958) large-scale nature photographs converse with Otso Vartiainen's (b. 1991) light art - and vice versa. The exhibition reflects on inter-sensory experiences, and aims to take the exhibition visitor on a journey of images, light and sounds to their own experienced and imagined forests.
In Ainola, Taneli Eskola's works are displayed in the café building. On the ground floor of the museum building, in Hesa's chamber, a collection of photographic portraits of Jean Sibelius assembled by Eskola is on display.
In his long career, photographer Taneli Eskola has photographed untouched primeval forests and cultural and natural landscapes from the archipelago in the Gulf of Finland to Lapland, from primeval forests to the forest of Ainola.
Light artist Otso Vartiainen is a visual artist and light designer. He has worked in performing arts, live music and light art for ten years.
