Age of Utopias - Finns Building Utopian Communities

Finns have established utopian communities in different parts of the world. The exhibition presents three utopian experiments from the 19th and 20th centuries: the Amur Company in the Russian Far East, the Sointula community on the west coast of Canada, and the Kylväjä Commune, established by Finnish Americans in the Soviet Union.

The exhibition tells stories of utopians who believed in their ideals and of building a new life on the other side of the world. Objects, photographs and contemporary accounts illustrate the experiences of these communities.

Alongside utopian communities of the past, the exhibition also explores contemporary utopian experiments and encourages visitors to envision a better future.

The exhibition has been created in collaboration with Sointula Museum, located in the village of Sointula in Canada, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
