Ateneum Salon: Dive into the Middle Ages 11.12.

The December edition of the Ateneum Salon will dive into the Middle Ages. Why the fascination with the Middle Ages? What knowledge and imagination do we need today to immerse ourselves in the life of centuries long past? The topic will be discussed by the author Anneli Kanto and the director of the Ateneum, Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff.

Ensemble Gamut brings to the Ateneum Salon secular and religious love songs, representing lyrical European love poetry and dating from the Middle Ages to the present day. Saint Bridget’s introspective, sigh-like prayers, and Hildegard of Bingen’s texts, characterised as erotic and flowing through body and soul, are combined with Finnish folk tunes and the group’s own improvisation, creating a timeless world of music.
