The University of Helsinki is the oldest university in Finland and the country's cultural and scientific cradle. The museum is located next to the historical Senate square, at the main building of the university.


NB! The main exhibition of the Helsinki University Museum is temporarily closed due to the renovation of the University's main building. The renewed exhibition will open in the main building towards the end of 2023.

The Helsinki University Museum preserves the cultural heritage of the University of Helsinki and manages its artefact, art and photographic collections. Through its exhibitions the Museum imparts knowledge about the history of science and the University, thereby contributing to the building of the University community.

The Helsinki Observatory is a part of the University Museum. The Observatory, which was completed on Observatory Hill (Thtitorninmaki) in 1834, now functions as an astronomy visitor centre that tells the story of the astronomical craft and its history to people of all ages.
