3. krs

The University of Helsinki is the oldest university in Finland and the country's cultural and scientific cradle. The exhibitions and collections of the University Museum tell the fascinating story of the University, from the founding of the Royal Academy of Turku in the year 1640 up to the present day.

The Helsinki University Museum preserves the cultural heritage of the University of Helsinki and manages its artefact, art and photographic collections. Through its exhibitions the Museum imparts knowledge about the history of science and the University, thereby contributing to the building of the University community.

The Helsinki Observatory is a part of the University Museum. The Observatory, which was completed on Observatory Hill (Thtitorninmaki) in 1834, now functions as an astronomy visitor centre that tells the story of the astronomical craft and its history to people of all ages. The Observatory houses a planetarium and offers venues for hire.
