What is life like in the north of the globe? Discover the everyday life in the Arctic, the lifestyles of northern peoples, and the new challenges facing the region, such as climate change and globalization.


A permanent exhibition, the Arctic in Change highlights the multidisciplinary research of the Arctic, including photos, videos and a scale model. The experiential science exhibition stimulates thoughts, encourages debate, and provides a deeper understanding of the Arctic.

The University of Laplands Arctic Centre conducts internationally recognized and multidisciplinary research of the Arctic.

In the foregrounds of Arktikum, along the shoreline of the Ounasjoki River, resides an Arctic garden and one of Rovaniemis most picturesqe parks. Situated on about seven hectares, and spanning a small island, this arboretum park boasts a scenic location along the banks of the Ounasjoki River. The Arktikum Beach Park displays a variery of species of plants and alpine vegetation that have uniquely adapted to survive the harsh nothern climate of Lapland and the Arctic.
