Museum-Gallery Alariesto

Museum-Gallery Alariesto is located in the heart of Sodankylä, close to Old Church and Reindeer statue. Gallery opened in July 1986 and the permanent exhibition shows artist Andreas Alariesto’s (1900-1989) art. The exhibition has over 100 paintings and artefacts of Alariesto’s life.
The paintings show visualized stories of Alariesto’s childhood. Some of the stories are true and some are fiction- like all good stories are. Alariesto’s colorful, everyday life showing work has the feeling of authenticity and originality.
Museum Gallery Alariesto is managed by the Kauko Sorjonen Foundation.
The purpose of the Kauko Sorjonen Foundation is to promote cultural work and the preservation of cultural heritage.
