The Art Museum of Southern Ostrobothnia, Nelimarkka Museum, is situated in Alajärvi and operates in the area of 16 municipalities. The mission of the museum is the knowledge, expertise and research as well as publishing and exhibition activities related to the artist, professor Eero Nelimarkka (1891-1977) and his art. The museum´s interests lie in art education and co-operation. In Villa Nelimarkka the museum runs the Nelimarkka Residency, where foreign artists have the opportunity to work and get to know the region and its people.
