Fluid Roots

In the exhibition Fluid Roots, we meet three artists currently active in Raseborg, who were born outside the region or abroad. New life circumstances have given rise to new ideas that permeate the art of Tanja Is (b. 1984), Henry Kämi (b. 1987), and Anna Ulff (b. 1963). The creativity of these four artists is dynamic, adaptable, and in constant development. The exhibition shows that roots are something that we carry with us and that we can re-establish.
“Fluid roots” refers to a roots that do not remain confined within borders; they spread, intertwine, and draw influences from various places, cultures, and traditions. Human being can feel at home in several different places or in various communities. In this view, a place belongs to the person, rather than the person belonging to the place.
A dynamic view of rootedness, the ability to create in the midst of change, is the true strength of the artists. It is an ability that can spread hope throughout our society. The artists’ personal and cultural roots comprise a broad network from which they can draw strength and inspiration. Like the artists themselves, these roots are viable and do not break during periods of transition. The ability to be creative in times of change is what keeps the roots grounded and alive. In a time that demands global interconnectedness and resilience, the idea of “fluid roots” reflects not only a contemporary identity but also a necessary future-oriented perspective.
The exhibition includes paintings, installations, and mixed media artworks.
