Temporary Presence - From Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation Collection

Temporary Presence explores the subtle relations of presence and absence in relation to artworks as well as artists, be it in a gallery or as part of a residency program. It celebrates works that expand on the conditions of an image as well as the potential of the traditional medium of painting to show visceral, emotional, erotic, and humorous aspects of contemporary life. On view will be artworks that display individual subjectivity in reflections on forms of nature or in the creation of vast internal landscapes. Additionally the formal constraints of art itself are called into question, discussing the notions of what constitutes an image, a painting, an artistic statement – and where it places the viewer.

The exhibition curated by German curator, mentor, and art historian Angela Rosenberg will be presented at Rovaniemi Art Museum and the Valo Gallery at Arktikum. Temporary Presence brings together works by artists who have participated in the residency program.
