Opening of the Pori Art Museum 31.1.

Pori Art Museum has undergone a major renovation between 2023 and 2024 and now is the time to celebrate the completion of the renovation and the opening of the exhibitions.

The opening year of the art museum will begin with an exhibition by the Circle band, entitled Piste, which stretches the boundaries between art forms. Working at the crossroads between avant-garde sound art and rock music, Circle is a Pori-based phenomenon whose repetitively monumental and sculptural music, as well as performative live shows, are known worldwide. The work, commissioned for the large exhibition hall of the Pori Art Museum, consists of sculptural elements and a soundscape composed for the piece.

The Pori Art Museum is based on the life's work of Professor Maire Gullichsen (1907-1990) and the collection of the Art Foundation that bears her name. The collection now has its own permanent exhibition space in the art museum's Wing. In the opening programme, the other side of the Wing will be filled with a selection of works from the AD HOC collection donated to the museum by Kristian and Kirsi Gullichsen. Also on show is Adrian Piper's classic work Funk Lessons from 1983. Poriginal Gallery will move to the Pori Art Museum when it opens. Poriginal's first artists are Elis Hannikainen and Vappu Jalonen.
