Sympathetic Frog

This feel-good exhibition features a wide variety of frog figurines. Retired Raimo Niemimaa has been collecting frogs of all shapes and sizes for about 40 years. This is the first time that Niemimaa is showing his collection outside his home.

It all started with an engagement present in the 1980s, when Niemimaa received a fun frog ornament, for which they had to find a mate, of course. Somewhere along the way, the search for a mate got out of hand. Now there are more than 700 different frogs around Niemimaa's home and they are on display in the museum.

An important criterion in choosing each frog was its different expressions. A funny grin, or a figure that generally depicts a particular emotion, has been of great interest. They are benevolent creatures and looking at them puts you in a good mood.

The frogs on display are made from a variety of materials including wood, porcelain, ceramic clay, glass and steel - there are even a couple of real stuffed frogs on display. In addition to decorative objects, there are also frog-themed utensils such as a watering can, a napkin holder, a pepper salt cellar, a radio, a toothpick holder, a clock, a tape stand, bag closers, etc.
