Stories of the Parsonage
Juhani Aho Museum, Iisalmi
- 19.4.2021–
The main exhibition of the museum tells a story about Juhani Aho's childhood in a parsonage and its influence on his written works.
Juhani Aho (1861–1921) lived in the parsonage of Mansikkaniemi in years 1865–1876. This time affected his written works in many ways. Aho was known as a realist writer, sharp journalist and as an enthusiastic angler always following new trends of his time.
His father "Uncle Brofeldt" acted as a priest in Iisalmi for 55 years. This loved spiritual guide of the parish funded much of Aho's early writing, even though initially he was against Juhani's choice of career.
Our main exhibition is built around these two important people in local and Finnish history.
We provide guides for both individual visitors as well as for groups. Welcome to the museum where the stories of past will bring you to the time when oil lamps made their way to Finnish homes.
