Craftsmen´s Houses of the Museum of Central Finland
Toivolan vanha piha,
Cygnaeuksenkatu 2
Historical atmosphere and crafts in a rare old wooden house. Discover the life of local craftsmen in the 19th century, visit the lovely shops and enjoy local delicacies at the old Toivola yard!
The Coppersmith's House (1842) and the Carpenter's House (1844) of the museum are rear examples of the old way of building in Jyväskylä, which was founded in 1837.
How on earth did the coppersmith's family with its many children as well as the journeyman, apprentice, lodger, and clients fit in the house? More the merrier!
The Coppersmith's House has a furnished kitchen, chamber, hall, the chambers of sexton’s widow and shoemaker as well as the workshop of a shoemaker. In the smaller Carpenter’s House, you can find a carpenter’s workshop and a journeyman’s room.
In the Museum shop Sparvin, you can find products befitting the spirit of the late 19th century Jyväskylä as well as a cosy workshop space. The museum shop is located in the Sparvin house (1861), which is the oldest residential building in central Jyväskylä still in its original place.
