Opened as a museum in 1987, Tamminiemi Villa was the official residence of Presidents Ryti, Mannerheim and Kekkonen and the stage of many political negotiations and resolutions.
Tamminiemi is best known for the 25-year presidency of Urho Kekkonen, during which time the name of Tamminiemi became an outright concept in Finnish political life and vocabulary. Guided tours explore the history of Tamminiemi as the official residence of presidents and particularly the period during which Urho Kekkonen, the villa’s longest-staying resident, lived there. As part of the tour, visitors will also get to see the famous sauna of Tamminiemi.
