Collection of Reitz Foundation
Apollonkatu 23 B 64,
00100 Helsinki
The home museum of Lauri and Maria Reitz in the center of Helsinki displays important works from the history of Finnish art, as well as a unique collection of antiques.
The Reitz Foundation Museum houses the art and antique collections of Lauri Reitz, one of the most notable developers in Helsinki in the years between the 1920s and the 1950s. The foundation was established by Maria Reitz, Lauri Reitz´s widow, through a bequest in her will. The Reitz family home was opened to the public as a museum in 1971.
The foundation has enlarged the Reitz´s collection of art and antiques over the years. Today the museum displays important works from the history of Finnish art as well as an unique collection of antique Finnish silver. Other notable items in the collection are weapons dating from as early as the 16th century, Meissen and Sèvres porcelain, and antique timepieces. The museum, which preserves the atmosphere of the Reitz family home, also features antique furniture from different eras.
