Aine Art Museum’s Anniversary Celebrations goes to Tornio Swimming Hall This November!

As part of the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme and Aine Art Museum’s anniversary celebrations, Tornio Swimming Hall will be transformed for one evening into an art installation and a venue for a floating concert, as Tornio-born artist Rusto Myllylahti presents A Heart Floating in Water. During the evening, a musical performance and sound works will merge with artworks placed throughout the space, inviting swimmers and water enthusiasts to float into a November evening surrounded by art and music.

Rusto Myllylahti (b. 1983) is an artist originally from Tornio who has held solo exhibitions at venues including Oksasenkatu 11, Sports Hall Window, Sinne, Titanik and Sorbus galleries in Helsinki and Turku. Myllylahti’s works have also been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including the Mänttä Art Festival, SiC Gallery, the Lofoten International Art Festival (LiAF), and the art programme of the Solstice Festival in Ruka. Myllylahti’s work was also included in Aine Art Museum’s Lapin Kullanmurut exhibition series in 2020–2021.

Rusto Myllylahti also performs under the name Elatu Nessa. The performances often combine dreamlike music, artworks arranged throughout the space, painted shirts and a sleeping backing choir. The music of Elatu Nessa drifts between elements of nature — water, wind and sunshine — as well as blues, experimental folk and meditative piano music. Elatu Nessa has performed throughout Europe and Finland at art and music festivals, as well as at small experimental music venues.
The event is part of Everybody’s Birthday, Aine Art Museum’s 40th-anniversary celebration, and the official programme of Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture. The exhibition has received funding from the Finnish Heritage Agency.
