Methods of Making Fashion

Architecture and Design Museum Helsinki, Helsinki

  • 26.5.2026 (16:00–20:00)

Methods of Making Fashion is an interactive workshop and one-night exhibition that opens up the creative processes behind contemporary fashion design. Three fashion designers guide visitors through their creative processes and invite them to participate hands-on.

What does it actually take to make a garment? Methods of Making Fashion is an interactive workshop and one-night exhibition by Fashion Community Helsinki that opens up the creative processes behind contemporary fashion design. The event is part of the programme of Fashion in Helsinki, taking place on 26–30 May 2026.

With three designers – Henna Lampinen, Sini-Pilvi Kiilunen and Susanna Saarikko – and three distinct working methods, visitors are invited to explore how ideas evolve into garments through experimentation, construction, and decoration.

The designers are present throughout the event, guiding visitors through their creative processes and inviting them to participate hands-on. By combining fashion, process, and participation, the exhibition makes fashion design visible, accessible, and experiential.

Designers and Working Methods
Henna Lampinen – decoration and expression
Sini-Pilvi Kiilunen – pattern cutting and structure
Susanna Saarikko – form building and volume

Participation
The workshop takes place in the lobby on the first floor of the Architecture & Design Museum Helsinki. The event is part of the museum’s May Free Evening programme, and participation is free of charge. The workshop runs on a drop-in basis and no advance registration is required.

Artist & Curator Tour: Craft Punk
At 6 PM, visitors also have the opportunity to join a guided tour of the Craft Punk exhibition by knitting artist Juha Vehmaanperä and curator Suvi Saloniemi in the Gallery, 0. floor.

Juha Vehmaanperä is a knitting artist awarded the Taito Award and the Young Designer of the Year award, whose work focuses on slow fashion, queer theory, and craft-based knowledge.
