The Asleep exhibition takes the visitor on a journey to discover the sleeping habits of different eras. The exhibition explores how sleeping patterns and perceptions of sleep have changed over time, from prehistoric times to the present. Located on the second floor of the Skogster Museum, the exhibition takes you through the sleep environments, sleep patterns and sleep cultures of different eras - from prehistoric caves to the modern bedroom.
The exhibition "Asleep" reveals the evolution of sleeping habits and the diversity of dream cultures. Sleep is not only an individual matter, but also a historical and cultural phenomenon. The oldest remains of beds in the world have been found in a cave called Border Cave in South Africa, where sleep was defined not only by light and seasonal changes but also by the security of the sleeping place.
In addition to sleep, the focus is on the meaning of dreams - as involuntary and repetitive, dreams have always captured human interest and have been interpreted throughout human history.
The exhibition invites you to reflect on the changing nature of sleep and the meaning of sleep in different eras and times.
