Treasures and Maps

Come learn about the fascinating world of treasures and maps! In the exhibition you'll get to see very old coins and other interesting items found with a metal detector. The old items tell a story of local living from hundreds of years ago! The items have been found by local metal detecting enthusiast Mikael Säntti.

There also maps illustrating both Kurikka, the Nordics and even the whole world all the way from the 16th century. On display there is for example "Carta Marina" made by Olaus Magnus, Mikael Kauffer's "Scandinavia", Eric Wetterstedt's "Pohjanmaa" (en. "Ostrobothnia"), Jakob Hoof's "Kurikan kylää" (en. "The town of Kurikka") and other big and small maps. You'll get to know stories about local houses and the history of charting maps!
