Antony Gormley: Hold

Throughout his long career, Antony Gormley has explored the human body and its relationship to space.

In Hold, Gormley invites us to consider how architecture shapes our lives. How do we adapt to the constraints of the built environment? How can imagination and perception extend the limits of the body? Can art challenge the authority of architecture?

The exhibition presents a comprehensive overview of Gormley’s oeuvre, bringing together works from across Gormley’s career, including both individual sculptures and whole room installations. A series of Body Buildings constructed entirely of cardboard invites you to crawl your way through them, while other works like Clearing and Run encourage you to bow down, step over, or move around them.

Gormley wants the exhibition to engage with sculpture not just as something that occupies space, but as the medium in which we move, breathe and feel.
