Ars Nova
Itäinen Rantakatu 4-6,
20700 Turku
Current modern artists and various takes on local phenomena, located at the Turku riverside.
The museum’s art exhibitions highlight interesting contemporary artists and topical perspectives on different phenomena.
The imposing building of Aboa Vetus Ars Nova was originally the elegant home of the tobacco manufacturer Hans von Rettig. The four-storey building called Rettig Palace was completed in December 1928. In 1995, Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova was opened, an event which altered life in the palace and on the entire site. An opening was made in the wall around the building on Itäinen Rantakatu street: private became public, a home became a museum.
Aboa Vetus Ars Nova is also the only archaeological museum in Finland. The 600-year-old area of excavated ruins you can see the remains of medieval stone-built houses and walk along the Convent Riverfront, an early street.
