Alvar Aalto Museum is closed due to renovation until Summer 2023.
A pioneer of modern architecture and design, Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) enjoyed an exceptionally rich and varied career as an architect and designer, both at home in Finland and abroad.
The Alvar Aalto Museum is sited on a slope leading down towards Lake Jyväsjärvi. Alvar Aalto’s design for the museum building was completed in 1973. It was characteristic of Aalto to treat each building as a complete work of art – right down to the furniture and light fittings.
The museum displays a permanent exhibition of the life and work of architect Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), as well as changing exhibitions on architecture and design in the Gallery.
Collection of original design by Aino and Alvar Aalto, furnishings and glass designs. Drawing archive, picture archive and reference library of architectur. The museum organises exhibitions both in Finland and abroad, related to Alvar Aalto.
