In the new exhibition we dive down into the stream and get to know the people and animals that have lived side by side along the river through generations. The exhibition “Splash! A dip in the story of the river Glimsjoki” tells about the river’s rich nature and long history which has also been affected by people through the years.
The river Glimsinjoki begins at Pitkäjärvi and floats into the now dried Kirkkojärvi, where it becomes the river Espoojoki and runs all the way to the sea. The river has been important to people who lived in the area, including the people at Glims. The fields close to the river grew well and the mill, with the help of the river’s power, ground the grain into flour.
Nowadays you can find a beautiful nature trail of 2 km's along the river. It makes excursions into nature possible for all ages. The route begins in the park at Träskända and ends at Glims Farmstead Museum. The Espoonjoki river’s nature guide (made by Pro Espoonjoki) presents the forests, the nature by the river and its importance for the people. An excursion day is a good way to combine hiking with a visit to Glims.
“Splash! A Dip in the Story of the River Glimsinjoki” is suitable especially for children as well as others who are interested of the river’s history. In the activity-filled exhibition it’s possible to visit the otters den and jump on the stones in the river. Old photographs and maps show more of the river’s past.
