Hedman floor
Ostrobothnian Museum, Vaasa
- 15.6.2020–
The valuable and also nationally significant collection of Doctor Karl Hedman (1864-1931) from Vaasa includes both Finnish and international art as well as jewellery and antique items.
A major part of the collection is permanently on display in the collector’s former home on the upper floor of the museum’s old wing. There are seven rooms with period interiors, four art rooms and a porcelain room.
The period interiors display art and antique items from the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Gustavian and Biedermeier periods. In the art rooms you can see works from the Golden Age of Finnish art, from the 1870s to the early 20th century, as well as Finnish modernism up until the 1960s. There are paintings by Fanny Churberg, Adolf von Becker, Albert Edelfelt, Helene Schjerfbeck, Hugo Simberg, Pekka Halonen, Akseli Gallén-Kallela, Tyko Sallinen, Tove Jansson and some Ostrobothnian artists, such as Thure Sundell and Carl Nyman Wargh. In the porcelain room you can admire a wide range of porcelain items, representing Chinese, French, German, English and Russian porcelain from the 18th and 19th centuries. Some of the porcelain collection’s items are on display in the interiors on the Hedman Floor.
