An enchanting city, inspiring fellow artists, the ecstasy of togetherness! Mathias Withoos (1627–1703) journeyed to Rome and joined the Bentvueghels group, which brought together Dutch artists who arrived in the city. Salla Heino, curator of The Peacock in the Garden – Mathias Withoos and Rome, expands on the exhibition’s themes in her lecture.
The young artists of the Bentvueghels artists’ group, from poets to painters, caroused and worked together. Rome left a lasting mark on their art. In the lecture, we dive into the world of Mathias Withoos and the artist community.
