My Friend, My Acquaintance – Childhood photographs
The exhibition tells about the living environment of past decades, the homes, families, clothing, childhood activities and chores, education, play surroundings, and toys.
The life of a child is influenced by the kind of family he or she is born into. Being born as a child of a crofter, a peasant, a merchant or spending one's childhood on an manor determined at least what external life was like. Many very similar things were part of all childhoods, however – playing, friends, school, work.
The photographs of the exhibition are from the beginning of the 1900's to the 1980's, the time of color photography. The pictures tell about the living environment of past decades, the homes, families, clothing, childhood activities and chores, education, play surroundings, and toys.
The photographs are from the photo archives of the Vantaa City Museum. The collections include pictures from over a century from Vantaa and its predecessor, Helsinki's rural municipality.
The exhibition is produced by the Vantaa City Museum and the Children's Art House Pessi and Toteemi.
