Monikulttuurikalenteri2026: Creating with "others"

In this art workshop, we explore how humans can become more aware of other beings and relate to them with respect. “Other beings” can be animals, plants, landscapes, or elements like snow, wind, and darkness. The workshops will be held indoors and outdoors. Please wear very warm clothing. Workshops are free of charge.

We begin with a short introduction and discussion, then take a slow walk in the park to meet our surroundings in winter. Each participant chooses one being for example a tree, a patch of snow, a stone, or animal footprints and pays attention to its presence.

Back indoors, everyone creates a small work of art in collaboration with their chosen being in any form: as a drawing, installation, poem, text, sculpture, or conceptual work. We end by sharing our works and reflecting on the experience.

Workshops will be held on January 25th from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM & 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Each workshop can accommodate 6 people.

The art workshop is held by Gaku Okata, a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores boundaries in society, with a focus on alienation, nature, and place.
