Fredagar på Sibbe: Vinterjazz
The Sibelius Museum, Turku
- 31.1.2025 (19.00–20.00)
Niklas Winter (FI), guitar
Søren Lee (DK), guitar
Niklas Winter and Søren Lee have known each others since the 90’s and played occasionally together but always in a band situation. Many talks did take place during the years to form a duo and finally they did their first appearance at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival in 2023.
A new duo was born with a vision to play the jazz guitar duo ‘thing’ but with the same energy you’ll find in a band setting if needed. The repertoire consists of Winter and Lee originals mixed with beloved jazz standards.
Niklas Winter is a bandleader and a composer and has been focused a long time on duo playing with collaborations with John Stowell, Ulf Wakenius, Jesse Van Ruller, Teemu Viinikainen, Jani Moder, Libor Smoldas, Lorenzo Cominoli, Severi Pyysalo and many more. And now also with Søren Lee.
In the fall of 2023 Winter released a new album named Graduale consisting of his arrangements of the oldest written music in Finland for jazz Quartet and a choir. This material was performed at the St.Paul’sChurch as a part of the program of the EFG London Jazz Festival 2023.
“The result is an entirely successful run of fourteen very different tracks that hang together to provide an
overall aesthetic that is both meditative and swinging.” Phil Johnson / London Jazz News 10/2023
Søren Lee has been ranked among the best of jazz guitarists in Denmark since the early 90’s. He has shared the stage with legends as Jim Hall and Ray Brown.
He has led his own bands and been active as a sideman. Søren is known for his superb timefeel and sound. A respected guitarist in demand.
“Soren Lee is one of the strongest voices on the guitar today. His playing and writing have always been on the highest level and he continues to hone and define his musical personality. One of my favorites!” Pete Bernstein / guitarist
His newest trio, The Jazz Explorers, with Swedish bassist Johnny Åman and Danish drummer Anders Mogensen released an album in February 2024.
NB. Concert tickets cannot be bought with the Museum Card.
