Äänetär spell poetry concert

What kind of sound is too much?
Does the voice become unpleasant only when the content of the words does not please the listener, when does the voice become squealing, cackling, whining and growling?

The Äänetär spell poetry concert, written and composed by the singing collective Sabrina ja Saarten tyttäret and stage poet Jonna Nummela / Nihkee, is a definition-defying, feminist and multi-talented folk art rebellion.

The performance consists of a dialogue of new modern incantations and soundscapes written in the Kalevala scale, feminist stage poetry, and archaic poetry songs and shepherd's calls performed together. The power of the voice and the listener are studied by e.g. words of pain, songs of shame, political emotional speech and a weepy song of the exhausted.

The performance combines drama and visuals with fresh choral music and spell poems.
Photographer-visualist Suvi Sievilä is responsible for spatial design of the piece.

Äänetär weaves parallels between today's performing poetry and ancient Finnish spell poems, showing how an individual who uses his voice in a way that deviates from the norm has always been a headache and a force for change in society: a witch, an woman and an agitator.

The duration of the show is about 60 minutes, no intermission. The show contains loud sound.
The performance is part of the 50th anniversary of the city of Vantaa. anniversary program.
