My World II

Highly educated immigrant women, the story-sharers, share their experiences of participation, exhibition works are created through collaboration between the story-sharer and a professional in the jewelry field.

In the exhibition process, the duo works from the perspective of the story-sharer’s experience of inclusion. The end result is a story and a jewelry piece or pieces, which are presented equally together in the exhibition.

Incredible Stories
The story-sharers come from different parts of the world. Some of them have only recently moved to Finland, while others have lived here for a long time. It is very difficult for immigrant women to find employment in Finland. The challenges of employment significantly affect integration, language learning, and self-image. The stories are powerful, telling of continuous perseverance, resilience, dreams, and the importance of studying the language.
The story-sharers have come to Finland for various reasons: as refugees, due to a spouse's job, or because they met a Finnish partner abroad and the family moved to the partner’s homeland. For some, a job opportunity was the reason for moving to Finland. Others came because of gender equality, as women in Finland can build a career while having a family.

Impactful Jewelry
The jewelry professionals were selected through an open application process. For them, it has been important to promote inclusion through their own expertise and experience. Meeting a person as a person is key. One of them said, "Jewelry, to me, is a wearable image, a story, a chance for presence and connection." Some of the jewelry artists also have experiences of immigrating: "I hope for a Finland that always meets newcomers from their own perspective humanely, allowing them the chance to find their own place here."

The Finnish Museum of Horology and Jewellery Kruunu aims to highlight minorities and various communities, as well as their experiences of equality, through the "My World" exhibitions. The goal is for the exhibition's content to resonate with the communities it represents. Additionally, the exhibition seeks to generate well-being and experiences of inclusion. It serves as an opening for conversation, where the story linked to the jewelry meets the audience.

Väestöliitto (The Family Federation of Finland) promotes human rights and equality. Key themes of its advocacy work include family and population policy, as well as sexual rights. Väestöliitto advocates for families, couples, youth, and children both in Finland and globally. All advocacy activities aim to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Väestöliitto's Womento career mentoring program has been operational for over 10 years and has supported approximately 500 immigrant women. The Womento career mentoring program helps educated women who have moved to Finland develop their expertise in their respective fields and gain knowledge of Finnish work life and customs. The story-sharer’s in the "My World II" exhibition project have participated in the Womento training, and a significant number of them have found employment through it.
