FixC 07-24 | Poriginal Gallery 20.9.-8.10.

Pori Art Museum, Pori

  • 21.9.2024–8.10.2024

The exhibition presents a wide selection of high-quality art from the Museum of Teletext Art (MUTA) and the VILKE collection. Exhibition opening on Friday 20 at 6-8 p.m., welcome!

The name of the exhibition reflects the years of operation of the FixC cooperative up to the time of the exhibition. The exhibition presents a wide selection of high-quality art from the Museum of Teletext Art (MUTA) and the VILKE collection.

VILKE bows out with gratitude!

This exhibition will be the last time the VILKE collection, established by the FixC cooperative in 2013, is showcased. The purpose of the VILKE collection was to bring together various contemporary works, whose concept, structure, or function is fundamentally linked to the technology involved in them. The aim was to highlight many artworks that had been overlooked by museum collections and the official canon of Finnish art history. This goal was achieved, but now it's time to pass the baton to the next generation of practitioners.

Among the exhibited works, Philip von Knorring's video monitor installation Bevakad (1977) remains astonishingly relevant in its exploration of the relative nature of individual freedom amidst technological surveillance and control. Heidi Kilpeläinen, also known as HK119, anticipates the culture of artificial identities and dependencies among internet "YouTubers" and social media influencers in her work MIND (2008).

Among the artists of the MUseum of Teletext Art, the world's only teletext art museum founded in 2014 by the FixC cooperative, you can find e.g. Software art pioneer LIA, renoun media hacking duo ÛBERMORGEN and the master of mecanografía expandid Raquel Meyers.
