Arni Aromaa – HYBRID
The Finnish Glass Museum, Riihimäki
- 5.10.2024–31.12.2024
The exhibition presents the work of sculptor and designer Arni Aromaa (b.1971), which uses ceramics, glass and wood as materials.
Sculptor and designer Arni Aromaa (1971) uses ceramics, glass and wood as his main materials. In recent years, he has studied the combination of ceramics and glass in the firing process. Aromaa utilizes a variety of methods from mold casting and pressing to hand building in larger works.
In addition to ceramics, Aromaa uses wood as the material for his sculptures. The works are inspired by nature, but their design language, finishing and implementation techniques are strongly based on the training of Aromaa's industrial designer.
Aromaa works as an industrial designer in his own design office. “Art serves as a strong inspiration for me in my design work and on the other hand I draw inspiration for art from the world of design,” Aromaa describes the dialogue from two perspectives.
Aromaa has participated in numerous joint exhibitions and his works are in the collections of the State and Museum of Modern Art EMMA, among others. He has received several design awards, including the State Design Award 2012 together with his colleague Sauli Suomela.
