Marianne Maans’ and Eija Kankaanranta’s intimate and narrative concert combines the music and folk music of our time with poetry and stories from around the world. For this concert, the duo has been inspired to explore how the combination and interplay of kantele and violin can be used to create versions of pieces originally composed for very different combinations. The concert will feature compositions by Olafur Arlands (Iceland), Pauliina Isomäki, Marianne Maans, Juhani Nuorvala, Ryuichi Sakamoto (Japan) and Kalle Ylitalo, as well as folk music.
Eija Kankaanranta is a kantele musician who is passionate about contemporary music and improvisation. Eija is a lecturer of kantele at the Classical Music Department of the Sibelius Academy. Marianne Maans is a folk musician whose music ranges from traditional and modern folk music to chorale and Argentine tango. The duo’s first concert was in Kaarina in 2021, and they gave concerts in Helsinki and Turku in 2022.
