The retrospective exhibition by internationally renowned Finnish photographer Elina Brotherus showcases the artist’s work from the early series of the 1990s to her more recent works.
Brotherus' work has been alternating between autobiographical and art-historical approaches. Since early works on subjective experiences her works have been dealing with the human figure and the landscape and the relation of the artist and the model. Later on she has revisited Fluxus event scores and other written instructions for performance-oriented art of the 1950s-70s. Recent theme in her practice is architecture.
The exhibition is one of a three-part exhibition series produced in collaboration with the Alvar Aalto Museum and Luovake Center for Creative Photography. The other parts of the series are simultaneously on view at the Alvar Aalto Museum 27.10.2023–4.2.2024 and Gallery Ratamo 27.10.–10.12.2023.
