DARK ATLAS – Perttu Saksa

Perttu Saksa is well-known for his photographic artworks which combine strong visual perceptiveness and complexity. Saksa’s artworks examine the relationship between people and nature.

At Mikkeli Art Museum, Saksa will present his Dark Atlas series of photographs. The series combines documentary photographs, still lifes and abstract works of art. Saksa examines energy and its essence within the structure of society and pinpoints it as a physical element on a human level. Oil and petrol are a concrete theme in Saksa’s photographs as are our dependency on fossil fuels and the problems they cause.

Perttu Saksa (b.1977) is a celebrated photographic and video artist. His works of art have been exhibited in galleries and museums around Europe, such as Stadt-galerie in Kiel, Felleshus in Berlin, the Finnish Museum of Photography and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma. Saksa’s book Dark Atlas (Kehrer Verlag 2022), published in 2022, will be available for viewing and purchase at the Exhibition.
