Air is the premise of all life, but it also provides us with beautiful, but sometimes frightening light phenomenons like the aurora borealis, halos and lightning. Air also has the ability to carry. The first hot air balloon rose to the sky in November 1783. It lifted humans off the earth and changed the way we view the world.

Today, helium-filled balloons are an integral part of May Day and carnival type celebrations. They bring joy and festive feeling to everyday events. The balloons, however, are short-lived and fragile. Fleeting. In the works of French artist, Charles Ptillon, white balloons conquer buildings and evoke a gaze of childlike amazement and remind us of the fragility of life. The works of artists, Saara-Maria Kariranta and Paula Lehtonen transport us into a realm of wonder, but also towards questions about the relationship between humans and our environment.
