Rauma Museum brings Venetian needle point lace to its international summer exhibition
Venetian lace will take over the upper floor of the Rauma Art Museum, when the Rauma Museum brings the international lace exhibition as part of the Art Museum´s summer. The exhibition will bring lace into dialogue with art by featuring two contemporary artists from Finland, visual artist Anna Niskanen and media artist Niko Tiainen. The exhibition features Venetian lace on loan from the Fondazione Musei Civici Venezia (MUVE). The lace is part of the collection of the Museo del Merletto di Burano, a lace museum on the island of Burano. The museum exhibits and preserves the tradition of Venetian needle point lace and the history of the lace school in Burano.
Visual art creates lace around the sea – and a sensual Venice
The language of lace, with different motifs and patterns, is inspired by the many forms of the sea and marine life. It seemed natural to include in this exhibition works by artists who are also inspired by the sea. The Chief Curator of Rauma Art Museum Heta Kaisto, has curated the Art for this exhibition.
