The name of the Suur-Savo museum’s new exhibition is a quote from the celebratory cantata of the opening of the Urpola public school from 1955. The new Saimaanportti unified school will be completed in 2024 on the site of the Urpola school, which will be attended by more than 800 students from the four closed schools. It’s time to create an overview of Mikkeli’s history as a school town. The exhibition introduces the history of familiar subjects since the foundation of the national school. In addition, an overview of former, current, and future schools in Mikkeli will be created.
