K-8 - In memory of those who died in the accident
Rauma Maritime Museum, Rauma
- 28.9.2024–26.10.2024
The transport boat K-8 of the Finnish Defence Forces sank quickly after colliding with the tug boat Rauma II on the evening of the 8th of December in 1964.
The K-8 vessel was carrying mostly civilians - young ladies - to the Kuuskajaskari fortress for the evening ball. 28 lives were lost: 25 passengers and the ship's crew of 3. The grief touched the whole town of Rauma. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the accident.
The exhibition was originally compiled by Maiju Jänkävaara and it consists mostly of newspaper clippings. The texts are in Finnish. The extensive, original exhibition material has previously been on display in 2014. Now part of this exhibition has been selected for the tower of the Maritime Museum. If you wish, you can leave a ribbon or a message of condolence in the exhibition space.
The exhibition will be on display until All Saints' Day Week. Please note that the Maritime Museum is closed on All Saints' Day, on Saturday the 2nd of November.
