Natalia Mikkola: Beyond the Sea

Embarking on a voyage across the boundless expanse of the sea is both enticing and dangerous. We are travelling through something bigger than ourselves, through all layers, through time and space.

The power of the water washes us with a myriad of memories, moments and places. The sea becomes a canvas on which personal stories unfold.

The sea is the ultimate contradiction, where life meets death, forcing us to face our destiny.

Natalia Mikkola paints with her camera lens. Her subjects are often taken from nature and various urban environments. Even though some of the subjects are recognisable, she paints her photographic works with a magical sense of the sensual and mysterious.

‘’I don’t want to document, but to convey feeling and atmosphere,‘’ says Natalia Mikkola, who has already created her own characteristic way of expression that arouses the viewer’s interest.

Natalia has had solo exhibitions at galleries in Stockholm and Berlin, and in 2019 her work was exhibited at Liljevalchs konsthall in Stockholm. Several of her artworks can be found in public spaces. Natalia Mikkola’s art is represented in collections throughout Europe.

She most recently exhibited at Feriarte in Madrid and MIART in Milan.
