Trees, parks, people - Art and knowledge about the history and present day of trees and parks in Rovaniemi

Trees, parks, people -exhibition is the result of the collaboration of 11 artists and image makers from different fields. The exhibition consists of e.g. of photographs, lithographs, videos, sculptures and installations. In addition, there is a community artwork of about sixty tree lovers with photos of trees that they want to protect.

The artists and creators of the exhibition are Miina Alajärvi, Tuija Hautala-Hirvioja, Panu Johansson, Hilkka Liikkanen, Mervi Löfgren Autti, Mari Mäkiranta, Kirsikka Paakkinen, Karoliina Paatos, Eila Puhakka, Kaisa Sirén and Jukka Suvilehto.

A significant part of Rovaniemi's building stock was destroyed during the Second World War. However, there are trees growing in the city that have already lived in the generations before the wars. They are told about in the online publication Trees, parks, people - The cultural history of trees and parks. In addition, the articles discuss the development of green areas, parks and their plans, but also unrealized plans. The authors of the publication are Ella Haavisto, Marketta Harju-Autti, Mervi Löfgren Autti, Päivi Rahikainen, Monica Tennberg and Virpi Vainio.

The purpose of the exhibition and the related publication is to encourage visitors to the exhibition to face the importance of trees, parks and the surrounding nature.
