Reidar Särestöniemi (1925-1981) was a very productive artist and many type of symbols can be found in his oeuvre. An interesting aspect for his art can be found in element five elements of Chinese philosophy. In this exhibition, Särestöniemi’s voluminous art is obserced trough five elements: wood, fire, earth and water that form a regenerating circle. Wood burns, creating ash to feed the soil, the soil generates metal and cold metallic surface collects water that nourishes the wood.

Earlier works and those that are rarely exhibited are hung on the Studio walls to bring forth the diversity of techniques Reidar Särestöniemi used: graphic prints and their wooden blocks, metallic etchings and an oil painting Varkaankuru as a good example of the artists “colour feeling” technique; distracting colours from nature. In the painting two worlds, one depicting the scenery of a gulch from Ylläs fell and one depicting the micro scenery of moss on the surface of a small rock.
