Simon Fujiwara – It's a Small World
Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki
- 1.3.2024–30.10.2024
What does it mean to be a “self” in the 21st century? This is the question at the core of British-Japanese artist Simon Fujiwara’s work.
Fujiwara's exhibition It’s a Small World features key works from the full span of the artist’s career. Also included is Fujiwara’s latest project, Who the Bær. The lovable cartoon bear has the ability to effortlessly morph into any art style, person or object – such as an Aalto vase or Marimekko’s Unikko print pattern.
It’s a Small World offers the visitor a comprehensive view of the output of Simon Fujiwara (b. 1982, UK). His output as an artist ranges from performance to video and from painting to the creation of entire themed worlds. He frequently uses his own personal history as a starting point for his works, often performing and even parodying his own identity.
