For the Love of Skiing - Lahti Ski Club 100 years

Ski Museum, Lahti

  • 1.4.2022–12.1.2025

The exhibition tells the story of the ski club and showcases the highest achievements of its athletes and pays tribute to the power of the community.

The Lahti Ski Club (Lahden Hiihtoseura, LHS) celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2022. The story of LHS began with the ambition and enthusiasm to establish an international skiing event equal in stature to Norway’s Holmenkollen ski festival. Established on 3 April 1922, LHS organised the first ever Lahti Ski Games at Salpausselkä in early spring 1923. With LHS’s persistence and committed work, the Lahti Ski Games evolved into Finland’s largest annual sporting event. The Lahti Ski Games have from the very beginning been seen as an opportunity for LHS, the people of Lahti and local businesses to pull together and show their best.

While also organising the Lahti Ski Games, LHS has always maintained the promotion of skiing as a sport and children’s and young people’s physical education as its main aim. While it is LHS’s goal to coach young talent into successful athletes, its key objective will always be to inspire children and young people to ski and to maintain their love of skiing throughout their lives. LHS offers a wide range of skiing sports: ski jumping and Nordic combined, cross-country, biathlon, Alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Judged on its national and international merits, LHS is one of Finland’s most successful sports clubs.

The 100th anniversary exhibition tells the story of LHS and showcases the highest achievements of its athletes in the world of skiing over the decades. The exhibition pays tribute to the power of the community and the countless hours of work LHS volunteers do each year to make the magnificent events of the Lahti Ski Games and Finlandia-hiihto ski marathon possible.
