From the Soil

The Museum of Kymenlaakso, Kotka

  • 11.9.2020–29.11.2020

When you look at the curves of your body, what do you see? A fell and northern lights, pores and bone shapes?

ANTOcollectives From the Soil exhibition examines the human body, seeking landscape-like qualities and abstract shapes. The pictures, videos and soundscape create their own reality, where the human body can, on the one hand, be an entire world and, on the other hand, blend into the surrounding landscape like a rock, a tree trunk or foliage.

Established in 2018 by photographer Tommi Mattila and performance artist Annuska Hannula, ANTOcollective is a visual arts collective based in Kotka, Finland. From the Soil, the working group of which also includes lighting designer Essi Santala, is the collectives first exhibition.

The From the Soil exhibition has been financially supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation/Kymenlaakso fund, the City of Kotka, the Arts Promotion Centre Finland and Finnfoto ry.
