The Instrument Exhibition

The Sibelius Museum, Turku

  • 1.2.2016–30.12.2024

The Sibelius Museum’s permanent exhibition of musical instruments portrays the different aspects of Finnish music culture.

The history of classical music is approached from a local perspective. Turku was the capital of Finnish musical life from the middle ages all the way until the 1800’s.
The key features and historical development of various instrument families are presented in the exhibition. Folk music and the history of sound recording and reproduction have their own places in the permanent exhibition as well.
