HAIR – Pop Theatre and after 1969–2019

This exhibition celebrates HAIR’s journey in Finnish theatres.

The hippie generation of the 1960s wanted to save the world with the help of love, tolerance and nonviolence. HAIR – The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical was born out of the combination of rock music and the peace message of the hippie movement. It was a new kind of musical theatre, created and performed by young people. It communicated to a young audience in their own voice.

The year 2019 marked the 50th anniversary of HAIR’s premiere in Finland. This exhibition celebrates HAIR’s journey in Finnish theatres. The framework of the exhibition is provided by Vapriikki Museum Centre’s exhibition HAIR – The Story od Tampere Pop Theatre. Ours adaptation of the exhibition covers the Tampere Pop Theatre production of HAIR, but also introduces three other productions alongside it. These three productions have continued the performance tradition begun by the Tampere Pop Theatre, and simultaneously provided new perspectives to the musical.

It is the Age of Aquarius: the time to love, sing and dance.

Peace and love!
