Old teaching boards
Museum of Nurmijärvi Art, Nurmijärvi
- 1.2.2023–19.3.2023
A great overview of the history of teaching boards and a wide selection of them on different subjects.
The old teaching boards are on display at the museum from 1.2. to 19.3.2023. The selection gives a great insight into the wide range of teaching boards. There are boards on history, Bible stories, animals and plants, the human body, health education and works of art. The oldest teaching boards date from the early 20th century.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, teaching boards were classroom observation tools used to visually present things to support the teacher's speech and the text in textbooks. They were used in particular because textbooks of the time had few illustrations.
We encourage visitors to bring both children and grandchildren to the exhibition. Parents can take a nostalgic look at their own schooldays for the present generation. At the same time, they can explore the museum's main exhibition.
