Liz West - In Physical Reality

Hyvink Art Museum, Hyvink

  • 30.10.2020–18.4.2021

Liz West is a British artist (b. 1985) who graduated from Glasgow School of Art. She produces striking installations and sculptures. Her work mixes luminous colour with radiant light. Wests site-specific installations, which often use reflections and synthetic materials, explore colour as a psychological and physical phenomenon that tap into our own deeply entrenched relationships to colour.

Her exhibition at Hyvink Art Museum spreads over the space and invites the viewer to explore, while offering colour therapy to the body and mind in the darkest months of the year. Light plays a specific role in Wests art without light, colours are not visible. Through her works, West wants to provoke multisensory and holistic responses in the viewer. She has always been fascinated by the power of colours: Its like explaining why you love somebody. I love light. Ive always been attracted to light.

In Physical Reality is the artists first international solo exhibition in Europe. Previously, her work has been exhibited in Dubai, Berlin, Paris and New York. In the UK, permanent works by her are sited in London, Manchester and Bury. The exhibition is curated by Laura Knikk from Finnish Art Agency.
