Tamara Aladin in memoriam

The exhibition presents the production of Aladin for Riihimäen Lasi Oy in 1959-1976.

Tamara Aladin (1932-2019) was hired as a designer by the Riihimäen Lasi glassworks company in 1959. Originally trained as a ceramicists, she learned the skills and know-how required by her new material at Riihimäki. Aladin worked in designing the company's export collection and utility glassware, but she also created a few art objects. Large number of vases were made for export, because they were impressive pieces of low production costs that were sold at a price, that was profitable for the factory. Aladin's work is known for its original idiom of form and bold use of colour.

She worked at the Riihimäen Lasi company for 17 years, during which she designed almost 150 objects for the factory's products were sold as a anonymous designs. Aladin's Carmen candelstick was the last item to be made when the production of mouth-blown glass ended at Riihimäki on 30 November 1976.
